Wild Horse Nails the Art of “Overthinking” and Makes it Sound So Effortlessly Cool!

When we last caught up with Wild Horse in April, they had just stepped into a new era with “Read My Mind (Vibes Song)”, a track that shimmered with funk, clarity, and the thrill of emotional openness. It was a coming-of-age groove disguised as a party anthem, proof that the East Sussex quartet wasn’t just vibing, they were evolving. Now, just a couple of months later, they’re back with “Overthinking”, and the emotional depth runs even deeper. “Overthinking” is what happens after the first kiss, when the feelings get real, the doubt creeps in, and your heart starts talking louder than your head. Wild Horse isn’t just finding their sound, they’re feeling their way through it. And with each release, they’re proving that vulnerability can dance too!

The East Sussex poprock band, now a dynamic four-piece with the addition of Jade Snowdon on keys and violin, has hit an undeniable stride in 2025. Produced by the ever-reliable Gary Stevenson and written by frontman Jack Baldwin, the track threads together the band’s signature ingredients: funk-laced guitar riffs, crisp percussion, dreamy synth flourishes, and Baldwin’s charismatic vocal delivery. Love, in its earliest stages, is a bit like catching fireflies; you know it’s beautiful, but you’re not quite sure how to hold on without accidentally smothering it. Wild Horse capture that exact lightning-in-a-bottle sensation in “Overthinking”, and they do it with heart, soul, and a groove you can dance your anxieties away to. It lands somewhere between the glossy hooks of early 2010s indie rock and the confessional candor of modern bedroom pop. There are also echoes of classic Brit rock sensibilities, Wild Horse’s love for 60s and 70s melodic storytelling is still very much alive, but it’s now dressed in sparkling, contemporary production. The rhythm section, tightly locked but never rigid, keeps the groove buoyant. The ooh-ahh/backing vocals offer a soft cushion to the introspective lyrics, like friends reassuring you that you’re not alone in your spirals. The song doesn’t scream for attention, it wins you over gradually, like a text message at just the right moment.

“Can I make this work? Or have I just made shit worse...?”
After the verse, the most important question posed in this pre-chorus hits like a confession in real time. Baldwin’s lyrics feel pulled straight from the heart of someone second-guessing their every move in a new romance. There’s a kind of emotional transparency here that’s refreshingly raw; the acknowledgment of personal flaws, the self-sabotaging loops of doubt, the deep desire to just get it right this time. The lyrics aren’t trying to be clever, they’re trying to be understood. The chorus, with its soft emotional climax, feels custom-built for crowd singalongs and sunset drives. Yet it never loses its intimacy. There’s an earned maturity here, especially in the way the band addresses emotional turbulence not with melodrama, but with introspection. By the bridge, when Baldwin sings “I have stumbled into a win / I just can’t believe it...” it feels like we’re witnessing real-time growth. The song’s closing lines, “I don’t wanna break it / I will catch you when you fall...” serve as both a promise and a plea. Vulnerability has rarely sounded so hopeful.

At this point, it’s no exaggeration to say Wild Horse are among the most exciting indie-pop bands coming out of the UK. They’ve been building momentum with relentless energy-gigging nonstop, releasing with precision, and refining a sound that is unmistakably theirs. “Overthinking” isn’t just a summer single but a statement of emotional maturity and artistic cohesion. This is the sound of a band fully confident in their identity, but still curious enough to explore its edges. It’s proof that Wild Horse can make you dance and feel things, sometimes all in the same line. So if your heart’s a little tangled, your head a little loud, and you’re craving a song that actually gets it, "Overthinking" is calling. Wild Horse have bottled up the magic of emotional honesty and set it to a groove that won’t let go. Sometimes the best way to quiet your mind… is to turn the volume up, listen below.
