TaniA Kyllikki - What Does It Mean to Be “HUMAN”?

When we last encountered TaniA Kyllikki last year with “I Promise I’ll Wait For You,” her music was turned inward, transforming distance and devotion into an intimate portrait of love that refuses to give up. “HUMAN” takes that journey somewhere much wider - from learning to love someone to learning how deeply one can love others as well.  The personal tenderness remains, but the circle has expanded from two hearts to humanity itself. “HUMAN” asks how empathy survives division. Her soulful voice still carries that same vulnerability and conviction, but now it moves through hypnotic synths, electronic grooves, trap percussion, and gospel-tinged emotion, turning private feeling into a collective plea.

TaniA Kyllikki’s “HUMAN” feels like a song that began with a question and gradually turned into a musical act of resistance. Rather than responding to the ugliness of cultural hostility with another angry statement, Kyllikki and her husband Rynellton have chosen something considerably harder and more hopeful: empathy. The track opens almost meditatively, with hypnotic synths creating a suspended, reflective atmosphere while Kyllikki’s soulful R&B-inflected vocal quietly introduces the central idea, “Human, that’s what we are...” A tenderness in her delivery at first, but also an unmistakable conviction, as though she is gathering her thoughts before raising her voice. Then the production begins to move, bringing in a buoyant electronic groove, trap-influenced percussion, and increasingly energetic synth textures. That progression mirrors the lyric itself - contemplation becomes awareness, awareness becomes urgency, and urgency eventually demands action. Race, nationality, culture and social differences may occupy enormous space in public discourse, but beneath all those categories sits the rather inconvenient truth that everybody is simply trying to navigate the same existence. The opening verse establishes that premise plainly, while lines about learning to love, respect and understand one another turn the song away from accusation and toward responsibility. There is no particular enemy being placed in the crosshairs. Instead, the listener is invited to examine the habits that keep people apart. That philosophy is reflected in the track's hybrid construction. “HUMAN” sits somewhere between techno-house, electropop, soul, and trap, and its shifts in texture give the song an unusually dynamic emotional architecture. The bouncy electronic rhythm brings an almost celebratory quality to words that could easily have been presented as a solemn social statement. Then the rapid-fire hi-hats introduce a trap pulse, sharpening the track's sense of urgency. When the pre-chorus arrives with “No more division...” the vocal performance becomes more impassioned, almost reaching toward a cry or a plea, while the synth-driven backdrop intensifies around it. It is a clever arrangement choice because the music never allows the message to become static. The song keeps physically moving toward its idea of togetherness. The gospel influence is especially apparent in the way she treats certain lines almost like pleas rather than conventional pop lyrics. “God help us all / Please make a way...” has a devotional quality, but it doesn't feel detached from the rest of the song. Instead, it arrives naturally after the repeated rejection of division, suggesting that the prayer is less about choosing sides and more about finding a way forward together. The chorus is where that strategy really pays off. “What does it mean to be human?” is not presented as a rhetorical question with an easy answer. Kyllikki repeats it, reshapes it, and turns it back toward the listener: what does humanity mean for you and me? How do we live in harmony? What have we actually learned from being here? The final question, “Can we all agree?”, carries a deceptively simple weight. After everything the song has observed about division, agreement itself becomes almost radical. Interestingly, the chorus can also strip back into a trap-oriented groove, giving the refrain a different physical character from the more expansive electronic sections. It feels less like a grand declaration and more like a direct conversation with the listener. There is also something quite appealing about the origin story of “HUMAN.” It was apparently not a carefully scheduled album concept that emerged from a corporate songwriting meeting. The couple was already finishing what they thought would be the final song for FREE-SPIRITED when Kyllikki essentially looked across the bedroom and decided there was one more song that needed to exist. That detail gives the finished track a different kind of energy. It feels like an interruption that became necessary. The fact that the song was created entirely in their bedroom also sits nicely alongside its enormous subject matter. A global question about humanity began in a very small, private space between two people making music together. That homegrown origin is particularly striking considering how expansive the production eventually becomes. Rynellton takes Kyllikki's vocal melody and vision for a soulful, gospel-tinged song and builds an electronic framework around it that can accommodate techno-house propulsion, trap rhythms, and pop accessibility.

So, what does it mean to be HUMAN? Maybe TaniA Kyllikki and Rynellton do not give us an easy answer, but they give us something better - a song that makes the question impossible to ignore. “HUMAN” deserves to be heard not just for its infectious electronic pulse and soulful conviction, but for the heart behind every beat. Press play, let the groove pull you in, and let the message stay with you. I hope this song makes you feel a little more connected to the people around you. Give TaniA Kyllikki and Rynellton your support. Sometimes the most powerful way to stand together is simply to listen.
