1) Hello, welcome to the OG Music Blog Interview! First of all, please tell our reader friends and us a little about yourself!

Hey! I’m SILEN8, an independent singer, songwriter, and producer from Varanasi, India. I make music because it’s the easiest way for me to express things I can’t always say out loud. I love blending emotional lyrics with modern pop, indie, and electronic sounds to create songs that feel honest and cinematic. I’m still early in my journey, learning every day, but I’m focused on growing as an artist and putting out music that people can truly connect with.

2) What made you want to become a musician/artist? When did you start your musical journey? 

I’ve always loved music, but I started taking it seriously in 2020 when I began learning music production. At first, I was just curious about how songs were made, and that curiosity slowly turned into a passion. Over time, I started writing my own lyrics, producing my own tracks, and eventually learning to sing as well. It’s been a lot of trial and error, but every project teaches me something new. I still have a long way to go, but I’m enjoying the journey and trying to become a better artist with every release.

3) Which instruments do you play in general, which one you love most, and why?

I own an acoustic and an electric guitar, but I’m still learning to play them. Since I’m also a producer, I spend most of my time creating music inside my DAW, where I build songs using virtual instruments, synths, and samples. I enjoy experimenting with different sounds, and I’m looking forward to improving my guitar skills over time.

4) What is it that you are passionate about in music, in general?

For me, music is about making people feel something. I love how a song can remind you of a moment, change your mood, or say the things you can’t find the words for. That’s what keeps me motivated—to keep learning, keep creating, and hopefully make music that stays with people long after it ends.

5) Are there any musicians who inspire you?

I’m inspired by artists from different genres because I think every musician has something unique to teach. Martin Garrix and Marshmello inspire me with their production and melodies, Justin Bieber with his vocals and songwriting, and Yorushika with their beautiful storytelling and emotional atmosphere. I also have a lot of respect for Michael Jackson’s artistry and stage presence, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s timeless vocals and emotion. I mostly listen to Western artists, but I enjoy taking inspiration from different styles and blending them into my own music.

6) Can you please explain your creative process for any project?

Every song starts with a feeling or an idea. Sometimes it’s a lyric, other times it’s a melody or a simple chord progression. From there, I build the production around that emotion, experiment with different sounds, and keep refining everything until it feels right. I don’t like rushing the process—I usually let songs evolve naturally and keep making small changes until they truly connect with me.

7) What kind of music do you usually make or the mood/vibe you aim to create in general?

I mostly make modern pop with influences from indie and electronic music. I really enjoy writing emotional or reflective lyrics, but pairing them with brighter melodies and major-key production. I like that contrast because it makes a song feel hopeful even when it’s talking about difficult emotions. My goal is to create music that’s catchy, honest, and something people can connect with on different levels.

8) Have you ever collaborated? If yes, then say something about it, like with whom or your experience in collaborating with others?

I haven’t collaborated with other artists yet because I’ve been focused on developing my own sound and learning every part of the creative process, from songwriting and production to vocals. I think that has helped me grow as an artist. That said, I’m definitely open to collaborating in the future if it feels like the right creative fit

9) Which qualities do you think a great musician should possess?

10) Any weaknesses you think you have, or if you have any awkward moments/memories as a musician/artist?

I think my biggest weakness is that I’m my own biggest critic. I sometimes overthink my vocals and lyrics because I always want them to be better. At times, I’ve felt a little embarrassed sharing my work, but I’ve learned that growth comes from putting yourself out there. Every release helps me become more confident as an artist.

11) Any particular venue you'll be performing at or release that you might be having in the coming months? A few words on it, please.

At the moment, I’m focused on releasing new music. One thing I’m really excited about is the idea of performing my own songs live at the ghats of Varanasi. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while because that place has a unique atmosphere, and I think it would be a special way to connect with people through music. Hopefully, you’ll be seeing more live performances from me in the coming months.

12) One last question. What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you, or you might give to others like our musician friends reading this? Thanks.

The best advice I can give is to start with what you have. Don’t wait for the perfect gear, the perfect studio, or the perfect moment, because it probably won’t come. I started learning music production on a phone with just 512 MB of RAM using FL Studio Mobile. It wasn’t easy, but I kept going. Looking back, I’m glad I started instead of waiting. Progress comes from consistency, not perfect equipment.
